How Has COVID-19 Changed The Way We Recreate Outside?

The way we live today has drastically changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And our outdoor recreation and exercise habit is not an exception. It easy to see that there are a lot of factors that concern us when we think about spending time outdoors: face masks, social distancing, etc. But how has the way we exercise and recreate outside changed during and throughout COVID-19?

Zoe and Lochie went to Lane Cove National Park, a favourite place for the locals’ outdoor activities, to find out about this transformation. They approached people in the park to ask them about the changes in their outdoor recreation patterns, including frequency, sizes of group, travelling distance, and safety measures practising during COVID-19. They also interviewed an official from NSW National Park about what they are doing to respond to the pandemic.

You will find it interesting to see how people are changing the way that they pursue their recreation activities. The information gathered from their interviews show the recent recreation trends that people tend to reduce the size of groups, travelling distance, strictly follow the guidelines on safety measures, although the recreation and exercise frequency has not been much changed. But it doesn’t mean that there is no exception and those cases show a sign of social recovery. At the end of the feature, Zoe and Lochie recommend people to safely continue the outdoor activities you love to improve your physical and mental health.
