DOOMSDAY PREPPERS:

WERE THEY RIGHT ALL ALONG?

Trevor Andrei is not your regular Australian, he is a Doomsday Prepper. During our interview, he speaks of his early and current involvement in this community, sharing his experience living off the land and tips one should know in case of an emergency. As he reflects on his prepping lifestyle, we ask him some important questions about Covid-19 and how people can better respond to this and other world changing disasters.

“You are the zombies of the zombie apocalypse”.

However, his main focus is on community resilience and self-sufficiency, showing that prepping is not just doom and gloom but a resourceful way of living.

On the other hand, Professor Greg Downey is an anthropologist at Macquarie University who offered insight into what makes preppers tick and why there is this long-running perception of conspiracy around them.  He details a brief history on the prepping movement to explain why people start prepping in the first place.

“Most preppers start off as emergency workers”.

He notes that Doomsday preppers are not crazy but are simply people who reflect on their lives, realise they don't know what to do in an emergency and seek to change that. With all this newfound information, Trevor manages to sneak in some helpful tips and advice that anyone can do, showing that the prepping lifestyle is actually quite simple.
